Mara Clara Bags 34.6% Ratings

Young stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes expressed happiness that their series "Mara Clara" drew impressive high TV ratings and rave reviews from viewers from the time it started and up to now that they are opening book 2 of the series.

"Nagpapasalamat po kami dahil sa suporta ng mga tao, sa walang sawang panonood nila sa 'Mara Clara'," Montes said in an interview during a press conference for "Mara Clara"'s book 2.

Montes and Bernardo's first TV project together continues to boom in ratings. Kantar Media's national ratings results showed that for the month of January, "Mara Clara" had a 29.9% average rating, maintaining its top spot among the most watched shows in the country.

On Monday, January 31, the show earned its highest national rating to date, 34.6%, against its rival program, which had a rating of 17.3%.

That Monday's episode was the revelation night when viewers found out that the real del Valle is Mara (Bernardo) and not Clara (Montes).

Bernardo asked viewers to continue to watch their show especially now that they will be switching roles.

"Dapat abangan ang magiging buhay namin ni Clara at conflict sa family," Bernardo said.

Another episode widely anticipated is that of the grand celebration for the 16th birthday of the real del Valle (Bernardo).

Mara will be given a big party for her 16th birthday where she will shine as she dances with more than 16 guys.

"Makakasama ko po dito ang mahigit sa 16 na Kapamilya stars. Kung sino sila, 'yun ang dapat abangan ng mga taga-subaybay," Bernardo said.

Make a Bag Using a Border Print

Lazies, Fussy cutting, or cutting to feature a particular part of the fabric, is handy for creating balance and symmetry when working with repeats. The green fabric on the Claire Handbag below is a fussy cut of a border print, or an elaborate stripe, from the Hushabye line by Tula Pink for Moda.

Where To Start
Below is the striped fabric I used for this Claire. The stripe wasn’t wide enough to use just one for the cover, but the stripes are close enough that I can use most of two stripes and the space between them.

I lined up the center of the green with a line on my cutting mat. Then I simply measure for half of the cover in each direction and cut.

I’ve overlaid the photo with a graphic showing the center and the overall cut size. The angled lines represent the center panel that will be swapped from the front to the back of the bag.

Find the center then cut the cover piece.

The Final Result
With the front and back views side by side, you can see where the center of the striped fabric offers a little variety on the back and the fabric is symmetrical because we centered the piece.

Critters and Cuties
Are you a fan of Tula Pink’s designs? I am. I love Jen’s critters and cuties which are composed of, and nearly hidden amongst, her elaborate scrolling designs. The border print hides a dandy owl shown below. The pink ‘V’ is the beak. The lining features a bunny and you probably saw the butterfly on the pink fabric.

SHINY SHOPPING: What we bought in the Luella sample sale!

I told you last week about the Luella sample sale happening in London - and that CQ ed Isabelle had come back to office with quite a haul, prompting my own (successful) visit the following day. It seems only right to share our goodies with other bag loving peeps, so here is our stash!

The cream slouchy bag (top left) and cute mandarin grab bag (bottom) are Iso's finds (so jealous she spotted that cream bag before I did!) and the peachy pink chain bag (top right) drew me to it instantly. Known as a sack

A bag (also known as a sack) is a non-rigid mostly semi-rigid container, made of paper, cloth, plastic, leather, or some other flexible material.

A bag is used for packaging and/or carrying items. For the latter a bag may have one or two handles; a shoulder bag has a strap to carry it on the shoulder (the bag is either carried on the side of the shoulder carrying it, or the other side). A rucksack has straps to carry it on the back. There is also be a string bag, with two strings which go over the shoulder and can be used as the fastening as well.

A bag may be closable by a zipper, snap fastener, etc., or simply by folding (e.g. in the case of a paper bag). Sometimes a money bag or travel bag has a lock. Sachets may be fabric bags that are filled with pot pourri and tied off with ribbons.

A bag may or may not be disposable; however, even a disposable bag can often be used many times, for economic and environmental reasons. On the other hand, there may be logistic or hygienic reasons to use a bag only once. For example, a garbage bag is often disposed of with its content. A bag for packaging a disposable product is often disposed of when it is empty.

An empty bag may or may not be very light and foldable to a small size. If it is, this is convenient for carrying it to the place where it is needed, such as a shop, and for storage of empty bags.

Bags vary from small ones, like purses (e.g. as an alternative to putting small objects in pockets of clothing) to large ones for use in traveling like a suitcase.

Cheap disposable paper bags and plastic shopping bags are very common in the retail trade as a convenience for shoppers, and are often supplied by the shop for free or for a small fee. Customers may also take their own shopping bags to the shop.

The word probably has its origins in the Norse word baggi[1]. Although paper had been used for purposes of wrapping and padding in ancient China since the 2nd century BC,[1] the first use of paper bags (for preserving the flavor of tea) in China came during the later Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD).[1] However, the creation of the modern bag is generally accredited to the 19th century inventor, Elias Senger.

There are environmental concerns regarding use and disposal of plastic shopping and trash bags. Efforts are being taken to control and reduce their use in some European Union countries, including Ireland and the Netherlands. In some cases the cheap bags are taxed so the customer must pay a fee where they may not have done previously. Sometimes heavy duty reusable plastic and fabric bags are sold, typically costing €0.5 to €1, and these may replace disposable bags entirely.
